Ubuntu versus Debian

It is time for me to reinstall my laptop.

What should I choose as the main OS?

Debian is pretty cool and lightweight as compared to Ubuntu. Unfortunately, the trend is not too good.

Ubuntu, on the other hand requires a little more resources than Debian. The interestingly fact is that the trend is showing me something else.

Have a look at this live trend from Google.

Otherwise, this is as of February 25, 2012.
Ubuntu is blue.
Debian is red.

I can see Debian is getting less popular, but I couldn't install the resource hungry Ubuntu, so proceeded with Debian 6 (Squeeze).
